Welcome to Barrog!
Barrog is home to the eldest pupils in Ysgol Talhaiarn, with learners from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. As the oldest children in the school, they take on important leadership roles and help to shape our positive, supportive school community.

Our Learning Spaces

We are proud to offer a rich and flexible learning environment made up of two classrooms and our cosy additional space, Den y Dwds.

Focused Learning Room

This calm, organised room is used for guided teaching, group work and focused learning activities.

Independent Learning Room

Our larger room is the base for Tasgau Tanllyd, where pupils work independently, problem‑solve and take ownership of their learning.

Den y Dwds

A small, welcoming space decorated with bunting and filled with books. It is used for:

interventions and small‑group support
quiet reading
completing independent tasks
relaxing on beanbags for a little calm time

Den y Dwds is a place where wellbeing and learning come together.

Our Learning Approach

The Big Question

Each term begins with a Big Question that drives our learning. Pupils explore this through smaller enquiry questions, encouraging curiosity, independence and deep thinking.

The Big Project

Every term includes a Big Project, where pupils work in teams to develop creativity, resilience and collaboration—key skills for successful lifelong learning.

Welsh Language at Barrog

We are passionate about developing pupils’ Welsh language skills and celebrating Cymraeg as a living, everyday language.

Helpwr Heddiw

Each day, one pupil becomes Helpwr Heddiw, leading Welsh phrases, supporting classroom routines and encouraging everyone to use Welsh throughout the day.

Tocynnau Iaith

Helpwr Heddiw also awards Tocynnau Iaith to pupils who use Welsh naturally, promoting confidence and celebrating progress.

Conwy Welsh Language Continuum

We follow the Conwy Welsh Language Continuum to ensure that every pupil continues to develop their Welsh at the right pace, building confidence step by step.

Welsh on the Yard

Welsh does not stop at the classroom door! Pupils lead Welsh yard games, encouraging conversation, teamwork and fun—all through the medium of Welsh.
