Main Focus Action Plan

The Eco committee is an ideal opportunity for our pupils to make decisions as part of Ysgol Talhaiarn and also to get more involved and be environmentally friendly. The Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made about eco related issues.

Councillors are nominated through showing an interest in the subject and then through a voting system.

Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

Three main targets

Target 1 – Reduce the number of cars outside school.
Target 2 – To create a small woodland area on our school grounds to attract wildlife.
Target 3 – To remind everyone about the importance of drinking water and having healthy
Target 3. To recycle our waste.

Our achievements

Target 3
We have achieved our goal through fundraising and have bought new bins for every class.

We can recycle paper and plastic and we have an extra bin for general waste.

Acorn Antics

During the Autumn term 2019 Eco Council decided to take part in the Natural Resources Wales’ acorn campaign.

We were busy for weeks collecting acorns for the “Acorn Antics”.

By taking part in the campaign we helped to plant and grow Oak trees in our local area and work towards our target of creating a small woodland area on our school grounds to attract wildlife.

We had lots of fun and did a lot of maths counting the acorns, we also raised money for our school.
